What Tanning Beds Can Say About Young People Especially:
For teens obsessed with their looks, tanning can be an essential part of their confidence. Society has defined the “bronze glow” has a healthier alternative to pale, and some young people, especially women, are taking the bait. The increase in melanoma cases in young adults isn’t coincidence, it’s because they have more frequent access to tanning and the harmful UV rays.
Unfortunately, body image issues in young adults is nothing new. Studies show that significant numbers of young people have insecurities about their looks. Parents can engage their young adult by more than complimenting their looks, but encouraging healthy behavior. Tanning is not part of a healthy lifestyle. Young people who workout regularly, have healthy diets, and maintain activity throughout the day are more likely to have higher levels of confidence than their peers. These healthier alternatives can drive some young adults away from the tanning beds.
At The Crossroads' transitional living programs for young adults is designed for troubled young men and women who are struggling to live independently, caught up into substance abuse, emotionally immature, and not ready to make it on their own.
